Help YDG - tag your convention photos and video

As many of you may know, YDG is working to use social media, such as Flickr, Facebook, and YouTube, to build a sense of community among Young Democrats in our state. I do hope those of you who are excited by the possibilities attended the great sessions at convention on this topic - many thanks to Shelby Highsmith and Timothy Moenk for presenting their insights.

Many of you who attended convention took photographs and video footage of our activities. I would strongly encourage you to post this content widely (with appropriate discretion, of course) to any and all social media sites that you participate in, and to join our Flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/350189@N23/ as well. YDG is just beginning to explore the use of tags to link the content we all create, and Shelby has proposed "ydgconvention07" as the tag to add to all your convention-related content. So whether it's a photograph, video, blog post, or anything else, just add that tag to it. I look forward to seeing and hearing how much you enjoyed convention!

I figured now was as good a time as any to start YDG's official presence in Second Life, so I went ahead and bought us a piece of land (it cost $20 or so) and put up a "future home of YDG" sign for people to see. I've attached a screen shot, and if anyone is intrepid enough to go to the actual location in Second Life, we are here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Deva%20Loka/141/142/9/. I'll try my hand at creating a building of sorts over the next few days and let you know what I come up with. Once I do that I'll put that on the MySpace blog and FaceBook and such as our inaugural SMO release. (I'll also mail to YDG exec, if y'all don't mind.)

Sex Scandals, Economic Failure, Devastating Week in Iraq, New YDA Site

With all the scandal on the Hill, Republican failures in Iraq, the economy tanking, and of course the upcoming elections, our new website (http://www.yda.org) may be low on the totem pole of breaking news. The staff and volunteers at YDA have been working on the new site for sometime and are excited to share with you a newly designed website and a new online store where you can buy t-shirts, rally signs and lots of other rad election gear.
Come on over and take a look - http://www.yda.org. We have videos on the website using YouTube, a new blog, political action day alerts and a voter registration tool where you can even change your address (p.s. deadlines are fast approaching).

Mark Warner Issues TxtVoter Challenge

Election Day is November 7 and young voters can play a critical role in choosing a new direction for this country. That's why Mark Warner and Forward Together PAC have launched a new nationwide voter registration drive as part of our Youthroots initiative.

Our Youthroots TxtVoter contest is different than traditional voter registration efforts. Get your friends and family to register to vote using their cell phones. The contestant who registers the most voters will win a video iPod.

Our TxtVoter contest, which will run through the month of September, will give you the ability to create your own voter registration campaign. Your campaign allows you to create a keyword that you can give out to your friends and family who want to register to vote. All they have to do is text that keyword to the number 75444. A non-profit, non-partisan organization called TxtVoter will take them through their respective state’s registration process to sign them up by Election Day.

The contestant that registers the highest number of new voters by the end of the month will receive a 30 GB video iPod. You can also win an iPod shuffle or an iTunes gift certificate.

The TxtVoter contest is the flagship initiative of our new site, Forward Together’s Youthroots, our Web-driven youth outreach effort that encourages young Americans to participate in the November mid-term elections.
